Welcome to our international students

We would like to welcome you to the London Met community so you can settle into university life and prepare for your studies.

Our Preparing for Study Blog offers practical advice, tips and insights to help you settle into university life and prepare for your academic journey.

We have a dedicated Library guide for international students which includes a vocabulary guide to help you understand the Library and academic terminology, as well as information about the Conversation Café which is open to all students - whether or not English is your first language. Here you can meet new people and boost your confidence in speaking English.

The Students' Union provides a range of services, events and societies which can help you integrate into university life and feel part of the community.

We’ve put together an exciting programme to help you settle into your student life in London. Our International Recruitment Team will welcome you and provide a helpful briefing session, which will be followed by talks delivered by our International Student Advisors and Student Union and more. This is an in-person event at our Holloway Campus. Register now.

Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) collection

Effective 31 October 2024, UKVI have confirmed that Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) will no longer be issued. New Student Visa holders will instead receive a digital immigration status called an eVisa. You can find information on how to create, view and prove your immigration status on your student visa decision letter once your application is granted.

Remote Study and your Student visa

The expectation is that all students should be physically present on campus to attend all scheduled classes, there is no online teaching provision for Student visa holders, and your attendance will be monitored.

Police registration

For those needing to register with the police on arrival

The Government has decided to abolish the Police Registration Scheme. The scheme, which requires some migrants to register with the police.

On Friday 5 August 2022, the Home Office announced that it would abolish the police registration scheme for international students in the UK, with immediate effect even if your immigration documentation mentions that you must.

If a migrant has previously registered with the police, they do not need to do anything.

If, prior to the scheme being abolished, you failed to register within the required timeframe, you are no longer required to register.
