  • Lexis Library
    This Library database contains approximately 100 UK newspaper titles, both regional and national. After you have logged in, select 'News' from the options bar at top of the screen. From Sources either select all UK Newspapers or choose a title or titles. You can then do a keyword search.

  • British Library (BL) Newspaper Collection
    The BL holds copies of all print UK and Irish newspapers. Currently 1500 titles are received on a daily or weekly basis and can be accessed in the Reading Rooms. You will need a Readers Pass.

  • Worldwide News in English
    Online British newspapers on the Internet, together with international newspapers with English versions, international news links and sites.
  • British Newspaper Archive
    Contains over 12 million pages of full text newspaper content, dating back to 1800. Access is via the payment of credits, but access to the digitised Archive is free within the British Library’s reading rooms if you register once there. You will need a Readers Pass.

  • Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers
    Over 10 million pages of digitized historic newspaper content dating from 1836 to 1922.

  • The European Library: Newspapers
    Facsimile reproductions of European newspapers from the 19th century to early 20th century. Over ten million pages of content.

  • Financial Times Historical Archives: 1888-2010
    Access to the online archive is available free of charge in the British Library’s Reading Rooms. You will need a Readers Pass. You can also access this resource for free in Westminster Reference Library, a specialist reference library open to everyone.

  • South Eastern Gazette Archive: 1852-1912
    The South Eastern Gazette (1852-1912), formerly the Maidstone Gazette, was a major regional title for the south-east of England, covering much of the South-East of England from East Hampshire through to Surrey and Sussex to South Essex and parts of London. This archive covers topics from transport to technology, health and education, crime and politics.

  • Times Digital Archive
    Full text facsimile editions of The Times newspaper from 1785-2009. You can access this resource remotely if you join an Idea Store or public library in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets or any public library in the London Borough of Islington.
    The Times Digital Archive can also be accessed in the British Library’s Reading Rooms. You will need a Readers Pass.

    Digitized newspaper archive of Australian newspapers dating back to 1803.
  • Independent Voices
    Includes over one million pages from magazines, journals and newsletters of the alternative press spanning the 1960s to the 1980s.
