    Search journal articles in all subject areas in the humanities and sciences, including physiology, sports and sport-related areas. Many journals are available in full text, but access to the current year may not be available for some journals.

  • APA PsycARTICLES
    Psychology journals published by the American Psychological Association, entirely full text.

  • APA PsycINFO
    Primarily bibliographic (references and summaries), though with some full text access, a database of psychology journal articles, book chapters and dissertations. The database is produced by the American Psychological Association.

  • The Cochrane Library
    Content covers health and other medicine-related issues and includes systematic reviews, meta-analyses and clinical trials. Some full text access is included, but not for all content.

  • PEDro Physiotherapy Evidence Database
    A free database containing over 37,000 randomised trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines. This database is produced by Musculoskeletal Health Sydney, School of Public Health at the University of Sydney, and is hosted by Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA). Most useful for sports and dance therapy. Search the internet to find this database.

  • PubMed
    An international bibliographic database containing millions of records of biomedical literature from MEDLINE and life science journals. All aspects of medicine and health are covered, including physiology, sports and dance-related topics.

  • Science Direct (Publisher Elsevier)
    This database contains journals published by Elsevier and affiliated publishers. It contains journal articles in all areas of science and medicine, including biomedical sciences, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, sports science, sports medicine, sports and dance therapy, psychology, coaching and related areas. There are many full text articles available from 1995 onwards, though not all.

  • SPORT Discus
    Bibliographic (references and summaries) database of journal articles in all aspects of sport, including sports science, sports therapy, dance therapy, sports medicine, sports psychology, exercise physiology, fitness, physical education, kinesiology, biomechanics, coaching, athletic training and the sociology and history of sport.

  • TRIP
    This is actually a medical search engine with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine (EBM) and clinical guidelines and queries, rather than a database, but is a key subscribed resource.

  • Web of Science (WoS)
    This is a key source for final year undergraduate dissertations, MSc, MPhil/PhD and staff. It is an international bibliographic (references and summaries) database covering world literature in all areas of science including sport-related topics.

  • Wiley Online Library
    This database contains journals published by Wiley and affiliated publishers. It covers all areas of science, including biomedical sciences, nutrition, sports science, coaching, medicine, sports and dance therapy. Full text access to most, but not all, journals is available.
  • BMJ Best Practice
    This is more of a reference resource but is a key subscribed resource. It contains information on public health and medical topics and combines the latest research evidence and guidelines. Good for looking up sports injuries information.

  • BNF: British National Formulary
    For searching the drug database.

  • Human kinetics : health care in sport and exercise
    A collection of 33 e-books and over 450 related videos (use the search function in the relevant e-book to find associated videos). Coverage includes physical therapy, athletic training, and sport-related health care content.

  • Visible Body
    This is a key purchased resource. It is a suite of interactive online programs covering anatomy, physiology, muscles, the skeleton, and the circulatory system through interactive 3D models, animations, quizzes, and more. Each program offers a mobile app, though you can use it via the link above on a desktop PC or MAC.
