There are a number of professional UK and International bodies in the fields of dietetics, nutrition and food science. The ones listed below are the ones that accredit some of the courses in the subject area.

  • British Library
    Access to material unavailable elsewhere. The British Library has a good collection of e-resources available within the reading rooms. Certain forms of ID are needed to register for a reader pass. See the website for further details.
  • Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
    This is an American organisation of food and nutrition professionals, which is committed to improving the nation's health and advancing the profession of dietetics through research, education and advocacy.

  • BioMed Central
    Open access (freely available), peer-reviewed journals in all of science, technology, engineering and medicine.

  • The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF)
    This is a registered charity. Its purpose is to make nutrition science accessible to all, by communicating scientific information to the public, the media, schools, government, health professionals, food producers, and food and drink companies.

  • Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
    Open access (freely available), peer-reviewed journals from all disciplines.

  • National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
    NICE produces evidence-based guidance to improve health and social care.

  • PLOS
    Open access (freely available), peer-reviewed journals in biosciences and medicine.

  • World Health Organization (WHO)
    This international body works with governments and other partners all over the world to “ensure the highest attainable level of health for all people”. Take a look at ‘health topics’ to find sections on diet, nutrition, obesity, etc.
