Coursework reassessment information
Coursework tasks (reassessment)
The generic deadline for coursework reassessment tasks is Friday 26 July 2024 at 3pm.
For all undergraduate February starters studying Level 4 30 Credit Modules, the deadline for all reassessment tasks is Friday 6 September 2024 at 3pm.
For undergraduate GSBL students at Level 6 who started their course in February, and who completed their course in the Autumn semester of 2023/24, the deadline for coursework reassessment tasks is Friday 24 May 2024 at 3pm.
For postgraduate students who started their course in July, the deadline for coursework reassessment tasks for Summer period modules is Friday 26 January at 3pm, and the deadline for coursework reassessment tasks for Autumn semester modules is Friday 24 May 2024 at 3pm.
Please note a component passed after reassessment will be capped at the bare pass mark (40% for undergraduate modules and 50% postgraduate modules) unless you had an accepted mitigating circumstances claim for the initial assessment.
Assignments and Submission
Where students have a coursework reassessment opportunity in the summer reassessment period, reassessment for coursework, project or portfolio-based assessments and examinations will normally involve the completion of a new task. Students who need to check the task should find this via Weblearn, and in many cases, it will also be detailed in the Module Booklet.
If your original assessment task was coursework then your reassessment will also be coursework and in most cases you will be expected to submit your work in the same format as for the original assignment, i.e. online or hardcopy. However, please note that time-constrained assessments, such as In-Class Tests, are normally considered as exams in the reassessment period. You should check ExamTrack for details.
Assessment submission and In Year Reassessment for foundation year and first year students
You are required to attempt all assessment components for each module. It will help your progression if you submit and pass each component at the first submission point. Failure to submit an assessment component in modules is likely to have serious consequences for progression through your course, and may result in you having a lot of reassessment during the summer or delay progression on your course.
If you do not submit work for an assessment component a mark of zero will be recorded for that component.
For those at Level 3 (foundation year) or Level 4 (first year) who have submitted their assessment at the first submission point and unfortunately failed, you do have the option of taking an in-year reassessment.
What is In-Year Reassessment?
If you are a student at Level 3 or Level 4, you have the option to resubmit your reassessment in year, provided:
- You submitted the original assessment and unfortunately failed
- The failed component is coursework (not an exam or presentation or groupwork)
- The original deadline for the initial assessment was before 31 March
When can I submit the In Year Reassessment?
You have 10 days from receiving your feedback from the original assessment to resubmit your in year reassessment. Your marks for the assessment will not be capped.
What if I cannot submit the In Year Reassessment?
You will still be entitled to your end of year reassessment opportunity in the July reassessment period. The deadline is Friday 26 July 2024 at 3pm.
What if I cannot submit the In Year Reassessment? Can I submit a Mitigating Circumstances claim?
Unfortunately you cannot submit a mitigating circumstances claim for the in year reassessment. The mitigating circumstances process for other types of assessment remains the same.
What if I cannot submit the In Year Reassessment? Can I have an extension?
Unfortunately coursework/self-certification extensions are no longer permitted for any assessments.
What if I submit the In Year Reassessment and fail?
If you do submit the in year reassessment and unfortunately fail again, you will still be entitled to your end of year reassessment opportunity in the July reassessment period. The deadline is Friday 26 July 2024 at 3pm.
I am trying to submit my work but the link isn’t working. What should I do?
Module Leaders are responsible for setting up folders/links for submission so they should be contacted first in this instance.
