Step 4 - Social activities

University life is about more than just studying and going to classes. Throughout the welcome period, there is a lot going on at the university that you can get involved in.

The Students’ Union will be visiting all three campuses with their roadshow where they will give you all the information you need about joining sports clubs and student societies.

If that’s not your thing they can tell you how you can get involved with the student magazine and radio station or how to become a student rep for your course.

Remember to visit the Students’ Union to get your NUS Extra card and for more information on getting your student Oyster card or 18-25 Railcard.

 What are the facilities like?

We have excellent facilities to help you keep active and get fit. We run an extensive programme of fitness classes and have modern gyms with state of the art cardiovascular equipment. Our sports facilities include a full-sized basketball court, complete with scoreboard, and a dance studio.

How do I join?

We offer a generous membership package that includes access to unlimited classes and the use of both gyms.

We have a whole programme of day and evening events for you to come along to and meet other new students running through the welcome period and ending with the big Freshers Party on Friday 13th October.

 Freshers' Fortnight

Freshers' Fortnight commences on Monday 25 September with social activity across the campuses all week, specifically for new students. Activities continue the following week when returning students arrive, from Monday 2 to Friday 6 October. There are various daytime and evening social activities for all tastes... including live music, DJs, themed parties, quizzes, movie nights, karaoke, talent show, barbecues and more.

During the first week of Freshers' there are also ice-breaking school-specific socials for all new students and academics put on around the campuses, with food, drink and entertainment provided.

Find out whats happening each day in the daily listings.
