TRAID charity shop window display project

TRAID charity shop window display

TRAID Charity in conjunction with London Metropolitan University Sustainability Team is offering an opportunity to our students to take part in exciting project.

About the project:

It is a window installation.

The key to a successful window installation project is that the theme of the project is on sustainability, textile waste, or focussed on an aspect of the textile supply chain eg. Workers’ rights, ethics, consumption, globalisation etc. so the project is having a link between the students work and TRAID.

To support the theme for a project set by London Metropolitan University that ties in with the ethos of TRAID by a TRAID visit to give a talk on sustainability/consumption etc., a visit to a TRAID shop or to our TRAID clothes sorting warehouse for a tour - to increase student’s understanding of TRAID but provide inspiration for students to create a piece in response.

Window installations must have element of upcycling or highlighting environmental issues (through waste).  A window display would be up for 2 weeks before being taken down so there’s lots of scope to reach a wide audience on a busy London high street.

TRAID have 5 sale dates a year so a window installation would need to be timed for installation outside of these sale times once a project has been decided.

For more details on previous projects for window installations please read this blog - University: https://traid.org.uk/stitch-in-shepherds-bush/

For interested students we offer 2 TRAID warehouse visits – Monday 5th February and Wednesday 14th March 2018.

Each tour starts at 10.30am and is 45 minutes long.

Visit will take place at TRAID Warehouse, Second Way, Wembley, HA9 0YJ – closest tube station is Wembley Park (the warehouse is approximately 15-20 minute walk from the station).  Alternatively travel to Wembley Central (Overground) station.

The students must make their own way by public transport to the warehouse from the Aldgate or Holloway Road campus.

Register for preffered warehouse visit here - http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/about/sustainability/

Please note: If fewer than 5 people sign up for the tour then the tour will not be able to go ahead.

What will happen after the visit?

To determine which student will create a window installation students will require to send in an artistic response to the challenges in the fashion industry. If any other titles are suggested, students must notify they Course Leader. Ideally students would use sustainably sourced materials to tie in with the theme. Students submit their work by an agreed date – this date can be decided by Course Leader to fit with their timetabling.

Installation date would be decided by TRAID following agreement of submission date to ensure fits our window timetabling.  It would be likely that window installation will be at TRAID Dalston.
