There are many UK and international learned and professional bodies that offer membership and networking opportunities in the fields of computing, IT, engineering and mathematics. The list below only gives the key ones.

  • British Library
    Access to material unavailable elsewhere. The British Library has a growing collection of e-resources now available within the reading rooms. Certain forms of ID are needed to register for a reader pass. See the website for further details.

  • Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Library
    The Library covers all aspects of communications technology and electronics, including networks, and houses a bookshop where IET publications can be purchased. It is open as a reference library to all. Students may be able to join the IET or take out library-only membership for a fee, allowing borrowing or access to e-resources.
  • 5G Technology World
    Contains news, articles and videos on all things to do with internet connectivity.

  • Alpha Vantage - Stock API
    Alpha Vantage is an Open Access (free) resource that provides a good Application Programming Interface (API) for students and researchers who need access to real-time live stock data when writing their own programs/applications. It gives access to UK, North America, Asia Pacific, and other global market statistics (stock prices, company filings, economic indicators such as GDP & inflation, foreign exchange rates, etc.) and is suitable for machine learning and statistical modeling.   • Dr Dobbs 
    Articles from the journal are not free, but the website contains additional articles, news, blogs, and events information aimed at professional programmers and software engineers. Very good for practical information.

  • Information Age
    Magazine aimed at IT managers and executives involved in the application of technology for business advantage and efficiency.

  • Interactive Mathematics Miscellany and Puzzles
    Site created and maintained, and copyright held, by Alexander Bogomolny, formerly an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of Iowa and now a freelance software developer.

  • Project Euclid
    Not-for-profit online publishing service providing access to journals, monographs, and conference proceedings in theoretical and applied mathematics and statistics. Look out for the open padlock symbol that denotes full access.

  • Web of Conferences
    This is an open access platform for published scientific (including engineering and technology) conference proceedings.
